Statewide CT Installation
Garage Door Installation Across Connecticut
A new garage door changes the front of a Connecticut home more than almost any other single project. U1 Garage Doors measures, orders, and installs new garage doors across the entire state β Clopay, Haas, Safe-Way, Wayne Dalton, and others β sized and insulated for what each home actually needs.
How we approach a new garage door
A new door is a long-lived purchase, so we slow down and treat the consultation like a small renovation. We measure the opening (height, width, headroom, side-room, backroom), look at the existing tracks and opener, talk through what you actually want β quieter operation, better insulation, more light, a different look β and put together two or three real options in your price range. You decide. Then we order.
Door styles that fit Connecticut homes
Most Connecticut homes do well with one of three families: a clean traditional raised-panel for Colonials and Capes; a carriage-house style for homes built to look older (or actually old); and a modern flush or full-view design for contemporary builds, particularly in Fairfield County and newer construction.
- Insulated steel (R-9 to R-18 depending on the model) β the workhorse choice.
- Carriage-house style with overlay hardware β Colonial- and Cape-friendly.
- Wood and wood-composite β beautiful but needs honest maintenance talk for our climate.
- Modern flush and full-view aluminum + glass β popular in Fairfield County and shoreline new builds.
- Custom sizing β older detached garages frequently aren’t standard 8′ or 9′ openings.
Insulation and energy in a CT climate
For attached garages and any room above a garage, insulation matters in Connecticut. R-value targets aren’t magic β the gap is the seal, the panel construction, and the bottom astragal β but a 2″ polyurethane-core panel is meaningfully warmer than the single-skin steel that came on a lot of 1990s builds. We’ll point that out honestly.
Opener compatibility and replacement
A new door often outweighs the old one. We check the opener at the same time β horsepower rating, force/travel limits, photo-eye placement β and tell you if it’ll handle the new door or if it’s due for replacement. Many homeowners pair a new insulated door with a quieter belt-drive opener and Wi-Fi access.
Timeline and the installation day
Standard door models we can usually order and install within 1β3 weeks. Custom builds and certain wood/wood-composite orders are 4β8 weeks. Install itself is generally a single-day job for one door: pulling the old hardware, framing if needed, hanging the new panels, springs, cables, tracks, opener, and seals, then balancing and a full safety test before we leave.
